Some local people agree in opinion that the best time for vacation in Ukraine is either May or October, when tourist season is not in its peak. This is true: in May, the weather is usually warm and sunny, which is good for sightseeing and perfect for photography, but the Black sea is not warm enough for swimming yet. So families with little kids prefer go to seaside vacations later in summer.

May is also good for visiting open air museums of ethnic culture and architecture; churces and monasteries, and national parks where one can spend all day in the oprn air. Even sudden rains and thunderstorms which may happen in the end of May arenot a big problem: they are usually very short and follow with ideal sunny weather.

Early summer is good time for  backpackers. Walking in the mountains and mountaneering is popular in Crimea and in the Carpathians. June is a good season to collect healing herbs, especially in Crimean plateaus. Those who prefer the Carpathians, can enjoy eating strawberries and raspberries right from the bushes in forests.

In villages, local people have lots of work: the season of mushrooms begins in forests, but at the same time, there is a lot of work in their private orchards.

Later in summer, a series of ethnic festivals is awaiting on each visitor. In many cities and rural areas, big musical shows or arts and crafts fairs are arranged. The most popular of them, like the Sheshory ethnic music festival, or the Sorochintsy trade fair take place in July and August. 

The warmest month of summer in Ukraine is July, but August may be the same hot, too. Nights become more refreshing in August, but days are still quite hot. Large cities are empty in August: everyone is on vacation at the seaside or hiding from heat in their country houses. The business is slow, schools are closed and offices are not working actively till the first days of September.

September and even October are regarded as the best time for vacation by many. When all kids are back at school and all the country has returned to normal working rhythm, and the heat has stepped back, those who waited through summer for a vacation in fall, enjoy every day of the Indian summer and marvel the beauty of the nature.

October may be quite cool in Ukraine, but it is still very warm for the southern coast of Crimea. The Black sea coast is relaxing after hot summer, and the nature is the most beautiful all along the coastal line in mid-fall.
