A number of foreign visitors in Ukraine admit that the prices in Ukraine have become lower. This paradoxical situation happened because of the recent economic meltdown in Ukraine. Caused by the world financial crisis and a number of domestic problems, the Ukrainian currency – hryvnia – has devaluated almost twofold in two past months.
Although the rate of inflation is quite high in Ukraine now, such devaluation of national currency allowed to foreign visitors, who usually exchange dollars or euros, feel much more confident. The prices for food, entertainment and services did not change much comparing to the international currency exchange rate. Moreover, many cafes, restaurants and service providing companies feeling the lack of customers are trying to attract more clients improving the quality of services. The cost for domestic transportation, especially train and bus tickets, also remains quite stable.
