The First International Competition of Champaign and Sparkling Wines was held in a fascinating spot of Crimean Peninsula, in the Champagne House Noviy Svet. The event lasted three days, on September, 17-19.
The Ukrainian Champagne vintage wine of the Noviy Svet production «Pinot Noir» became the winner at the first international competition of champagne wines.
It is reported that eighteen companies producing alcohol products from seven countries participated in the competition this time. Fifty seven samples of champagne wines and sparkling wines were represented there.
The wine-makers from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Germany, Slovakia, Turkey and Lithuania took part in that competition. The event was holding in the condition of absolute anonymity. A number of guests were invited. The Competition of champagne received 15 nominations.
In 1878 the first champagne production of Russian Empire was started at the champagne winery Noviy Svet. The idea to produce sparkling wines in Russia belonged to Prince Lev Golitsyn
In 1888 he invited the specialists wine-makers from France and organized a wine laboratory in his house in Crimea, where the first experiments were made. In the year of 1899, a very favorable one for that region, his factory produced 60 thousand bottles of an exclusive, high-quality champagne. At the Paris World Fair in 1900 Noviy Svet products won the Grand Prix for champagne.
