Ukraine Comes to New York
A famous world-known photographer Juergen Teller has presented his personal exhibition called “Ukraine” in Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York. It is open to public from February, 7 to March, 16, 2008. The exhibition is devoted to Ukraine as a country of contrasts and wide opportunities.
Born in Germany, living in London, Mr. Teller is called by the authoritative photography edition “Click Double Click” as a leading and one of the most influential photographers of the world of the last 15 years. The artist cooperates with such editions as “i-D’, “The Face”, “Vogue”, “Index”, “W”.
According to the Ukrainian information agency LIGABiznesInform, the core of exposition “Ukraine” is the photographs, prepared by Juergen Teller for the Ukrainian pavilion “Poem about Closed Sea” which were presented at famous exhibition of modern art – Biennale – in Venice, in 2007. Besides that, some pictures are exposed for the first time: portraits of average Ukrainians, the night life in Kyiv and the photographs, taken by the artist during his visit to Ukraine in 2007.
Coming to Ukraine, Juergen Teller tried to show all aspects of life in modern Ukraine. Mr. Teller tried to take pictures of diverse Ukrainian faces and places: from the glamorous and fashionable clubs in Kyiv to poorest slams of remote areas. According to his own words, Ukraine has surprised him with numerous signs of luxury and big money, such as extremely expensive cars, fashionable Japanese restaurants and huge construction projects, in contrast to evident poverty of some people.
